Navigating Alzheimer's Doyle, Mary K.Navigating Alzheimer's 12 Truths About Caring for Your Loved One is written by Mary K. Doyle from the perspective of the eleven years she has spent going through the experience of caring for her husband who has Alzheimer'. She talks about what Alzheimer's is, what are the signs of the disease, understanding the progression of the disease, the importance of the need for the caretaker to take care of him or herself and much more. Advice is also given as to when and how to find help including how to choose an assisted-living facility when the need for that arises.
Doyle says the intention of her book is to "offer solid information, compassion, understanding and resources". Each chapter has a title/statement, an explanation of that title, what the author experienced and learned from that topic and a short list of practical suggestions for the reader. Some of the most difficult times can be when others do not understand that the caregiver in on duty all day every day so do not understand the strain the caregiver experiences. Doyle deals with this compassionately in one of her chapters. Navigating Alzheimer's is a book you will want to read especially if you have someone close to you who has been diagnosed with this disease that affects not only the one diagnosed but the caregiver.
