Product DescriptionIcons are a unique type of art easily recognizable because of the style of the design. St. Therese of Lisieux joined the Carmelite order and died at a very young age. During her short lifetime she wrote a simple book of her memoirs which has become known as the "little way" and is popular even today for the lessons gained from reading about her life. She is commonly known as "The Little Flower". The St. Therese icon card measures 4-3/8 by 5-7/8 inches and is blank inside so there is a generous amount of space to include your message for just about any occasion. The verse from John 15:9 is included on the inside. The back of the card has an explanation of the history and symbolism of the icon presented.
St. Therese is shown in her Carmelite habit holding a copy of the New Testament which she carried with her always during her life as a nun. Two small flower medallions are a reminder of her title "The Little Flower". A unique feature of an icon is the large eyes of the figure which are said to be eyes that look into the soul of the viewer or that draw the viewer into communion with God through the eyes of the figure represented in the icon. The gold leaf used to adorn the halo reflects light differently than the rest of the surface of the card and is symbolic of the divine love of God for all people.
