Product Details
The Golden Thread is a novel by the famed author, Louis de Wohl. A skillful weaving of the story of St. Ignatius Loyola’s conversion and pilgrimage occur and keep readers glued to The Golden Thread. The colorful and dangerous history of Spain and Italy in the early sixteenth century is the setting of The Golden Thread. The life of the very human, very great Basque nobleman who founded the Jesuit Order, makes for one of de Wohl’s finest novels. The author of The Golden Thread knows how important it is for modern readers to imagine the entire environment of St. Ignatius Loyola to understand his choices and the life he lived. The Golden Thread is a paperback novel with 315 pages and measures 5-1/4”W x 8”H.
The Golden Thread shows how the Ignatius was seriously wounded at the siege of Pamplona in 1521 where Don Inigo de Loyola learned that to be a Knight of God was an infinitely greater honor (and infinitely more dangerous) than to be a Knight in the forces of the Emperor. Incapacitated by a canon shot that a humorous, intelligent, and courageous Swiss mercenary was responsible for, Ignatius befriended Uli von der Flue. The Golden Thread shows how the woman Juanita, disguised as the boy Juan and Swiss mercenary Uli followed Loyola on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land to protect him. However, it was the saint who ended up protecting Uli and Juan. Through Uli’s eyes, The Golden Thread allows the readers to see the surge and violence of the turbulent period in Jerusalem, Spain and Rome.
