Catholics and Fundamentalists Pable, Rev. Martin

Catholics and Fundamentalists is a revised edition of earlier books by Rev. Martin Pable defining fundamentalism and discussing its role in the world today. This revision came about because of the noted increase in Catholics joining Protestant fundamentalist churches and because of the rise of Islamic Fundamentalism in the world today. Pable defines fundamentalism as "a set of religious beliefs that moves the believer to reject all contrary beliefs and to attempt to convert others to the fundamentalist belief system". Since this could define many churches, he goes on to say that the intolerance evidenced in fundamentalists who have no respect for others beliefs and the militarism which fundamentalists feel they are entitled to engage in to protect their religion set fundamentalists apart from others.

Catholics and Fundamentalists gives a history of both Protestant and Islamic fundamentalism, talks about the consequences that have occurred as a result of fundamentalism and gives Catholics a way to understand and respond. He also discusses a form of Catholic fundamentalism that came about as some Catholics were dissatisfied with the path set by Vatican II. The book is a good resource for information about fundamentalism and how to respond in a "spirit of Christian charity and understanding".
