Why is youth important in the church? Getting youth involved in church at a young age is the best way to help them form a relationship with God that lasts forever. Leading them in the right path early on teaches them how to live every day praising God and honoring him. Christian young adults from the age of about 12-17 are at a very crucial and impressional time in their lives. They are transitioning from childhood into adulthood and face temptation on a daily basis. There is a very important verse in Ecclesiastes that says:

“Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.” (Ecclesiastes 11:9 )

This verse highlights the importance of building a strong relationship with God from the time you are young because it lays the foundation for the rest of your life. Getting youth involved in church early on is something that us elders, church members, and most importantly, parents are called to do. It is up to us to help lead them down the path of righteousness to grow closer to God. Christian young adults will eventually grow old, and we will not always be there to look over their shoulder to make sure that they are making good decisions.

The temptations that these young people are facing can only be truly defeated with the help of Jesus Christ. Only his love can satisfy us and make us whole. It is a struggle even for those of us who have the strongest faith with the Lord to be overwhelmed with longing for earthly desires such as power and greed. These temptations are just as prevalent, if not more, with Christian young adults. Getting youth involved in church can help them with these stresses and fears that are felt on a daily basis.

Sin is unavoidable as a Christian. We all mess up and do things that do not glorify God at times. It is important to teach these young people that this is why God sent Jesus to die for our sins. Jeus’s love is what saves us and makes us whole! Asking for forgiveness of sins and going to confession is one of the first things you can do to start honoring God and get involved in the church.

Find something that they enjoy such as singing, athletics, helping the elderly, or any other passion that can be used as a role in the church. This can help give them a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction that everyone can be proud of.
