Saint Raymond was a member of the Order of Our Lady of Mercy dedicated to the redemption of slaves. On a mission to purchase the freedom of slaves he ran out of money so offered himself for ransom to gain their freedom. He was proclaimed a Cardinal by Pope Gregory IX but died on the way to Rome. This holy card, dedicated to him, is a two page card featuring the world famous artwork of Fratelli-Bonella with gold stamped trim. The front of the card has an image of Saint Raymond holding a palm branch signifying martyrdom and dressed in the scarlet robes and mozzetta of a Cardinal.
The back of the card has a prayer of intercession to Saint Raymond asking for his help with a particular problem with which the one praying needs help. The inside has a biography of Saint Raymond, his feast day, the meaning of his name and the people for whom he is considered a patron saint. The card measures 5-1/4 by 3-1/8 inches so is easy to carry or use as a bookmark in a bible or prayer book. It would be a nice memento to give the young person who has chosen Raymond as his Confirmation name.
