St Lawrence Mini Lives Holy CardSt. Lawrence was one of the seven deacons of Rome and keeper of the treasures of the Church at a time when Christianity was outlawed. He sold the possessions of the Church and gave the money to the poor. When it was demanded that he give up the treasure of the church to the prefect of Rome, Lawrence presented the poor and ill to the prefect and declared them "the treasure of the Church". He was sentenced to death by burning on a red hot griddle. This holy card, dedicated to him, is a two page card featuring the world famous artwork of Fratelli-Bonella with gold stamped trim. The front of the card has an image of St. Lawrence kneeling before a griddle and holding a palm branch which is a symbol of martyrdom. The back of the card has a prayer of intercession to St. Lawrence asking that divine love burn away all traces of vice and that the one praying is zealous in service to the poor. The inside has a biography of St. Lawrence, his feast day, the meaning of his name and the people for whom he is considered a patron saint. The card measures 5-3/8 by 3-1/4 inches so is easy to carry or use as a bookmark in a bible or prayer book. It would be a nice memento to give the young person who has chosen Lawrence as his Confirmation name.
