Product Details
St. Andrew, along with his brother Simon Peter, was a fisherman and one of the disciples Jesus is said to have asked to come with him so Jesus could make him "a fisher of men". He is said to have been martyred by crucifixion but asked to be crucified on an X-shaped cross because he did not feel he was worthy to be crucified on a cross shaped the same as the one used in the crucifixion of Jesus. The X-shaped cross has since become known as Saint Andrew's Cross.
This St. Andrew prayer card measures 2-1/2 by 4-1/2 inches and is laminated. It has the image of St. Andrew standing in front of the X-shaped cross while the back of the holy card has a prayer to St. Andrew. It features the famous Fratelli-Bonello artwork with gold trim. He is the patron saint of many countries including Scotland whose national flag is blue with a white St. Andrew's cross. St. Andrew is also the patron saint of fisherman. The holy card could be given to a man with the name of Andrew or who has chosen Andrew as his Confirmation name. It also could be given to the man or woman who is an avid fisherperson.
