St. Agnes is one of the youngest martyrs venerated in the Catholic, Orthodox and Lutheran Churches. This St. Agnes medal is a sterling silver oval medal that comes on an 18" surgical stainless steel chain which is the perfect size for any girl or woman. Agnes was killed at the early age of 12 or 13. There are many legends as to how and why her death occurred, most of them mentioning her great beauty, her refusal to marry because she felt she was the bride of Christ, and the jealousy of her suitors that led to her being accused of being a Christian which was a crime at that time. She is usually represented with a lamb which is the symbol of virgin innocence and the palm which is found in the images of many martyrs. She is one of the only seven women commemorated in the Canon of the Mass. The Church of St. Agnes in Rome was erected over her tomb. Her feast day is January 21.
