St. John Baptist de La Salle was a 17th century French priest who came from a wealthy family and, seeing the need of poor children for education, gave up everything to try to provide that education in spite of fierce opposition. In the course of doing that he became the founder of the Brothers of the Christian Schools known today as the de La Salle Christian Brothers who have schools and educational institutions worldwide.
Mel Ferrer plays the part of St. John Baptist de La Salle in the movie presented on this DVD. The movie is in color and lasts 90 minutes. It tells a story of his great perseverance and his awareness of the need for the application of the Gospel to daily life in the classroom. Also included with the DVD is a 16 page booklet which talks about the movie and the life of St. John Baptist de La Salle. The saint is the patron saint of teachers as his writings have become educational classics and his meditations inspire Catholic educations to "see Christ beneath the rags of those confided in your care".
