St. Maria Goretti was canonized because of her purity used as an example for youth. At the age of 11 she was attacked and stabbed when she would not submit to her rape by the attacker. On her death bed she forgave the young man who attacked her. This holy card, dedicated to her, is a two page card featuring the world famous artwork of Fratelli-Bonella with gold stamped trim. The front of the card has an image of St. Maria Goretti surrounded by lilies for purity and holding a palm branch which is the symbol of a martyr. The back has a prayer to her asking her help in learning to love the precepts of the Church, preserving innocence and through Reconciliation and the forgiveness of God get new courage to carry faith forward in the world today. The inside has a biography of St. Maria Goretti, her feast day, the meaning of her name and the people for whom she is considered a patron saint. The card measures 5-1/4 by 3-1/8 inches so is easy to carry or use as a bookmark in a bible or prayer book. It would be a nice memento to give the young person who has chosen Maria as her Confirmation name.
