For example, St. Catherine of Sienna could not stop praying in front of this wooden crucifix in her final days. Measuring 8.38”W x 13.25”H, the copy of the crucifix of St. Peter’s Basilica is made from 48% resin, 48% stone, and 4% paint.

The masterful crucifix of St. Peter’s Basilica was repaired by Michelangelo and was dressed as a soldier when Rome was sacked in 1527 and the basilica converted into a stable amid the slain bodies of the Swiss Guard. In 2016, the crucifix of St. Peter’s Basilica was restored once again and now hangs in the altar in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel where thousands of pilgrims can view it each year.
