The Reluctant Saint is the story of St. Joseph of Cupertino referred to as "the Flying Friar". As a young man Joseph was uneducated, clumsy and seemed to have trouble following directions. After several false starts, he was accepted into a Franciscan monastery as a servant. Here he started to change and become closer to God. The Reluctant Saint tells the story of his childhood, his becoming a priest and the miracle of his levitation episodes when he became ecstatic in the presence of God. The DVD talks of how some in the monastery feel the levitations and healing he does is from the devil so the conflict that arises is a large part of the story.
The DVD is a transfer from the original archive film master. It includes a Collector's Booklet with a biography of St. Joseph. The DVD is in black and white, lasts 104 minutes and comes in English with the choice of Spanish and English subtitles. Time Magazine describes it as "An amusing, amazing story."
