Product Details
This revised and expanded edition of The Mass Explained An Introduction to the New Roman Missal is offered as an introduction to the Catholic Mass as presented and with the changes found in the recently published New Roman Missal. The author, Monsignor Moroney, is a member of the faculty of St. John's Seminary in Boston and has served as Executive Director of the Committee on the Liturgy of the United States Conference of Catholic bishops for more than a decade.
In the first part of The Mass Explained he presents three ways to try to understand the mystery of the Mass through "exploring where the Mass came from, looking at what the Church asks us to do at Mass and finally to look at what happens at Mass and begin to explore the meaning of its words, songs, gestures and ritual actions". The second part looks at the roles of the Priest, the Deacon and the people at Mass and delves into the history of how those roles came about. Each chapter ends with a prayer and a short list of questions for discussion. Finally a short reflection is offered on the new Roman Missal. A convenient glossary of terms is also offered in the back of the book. The Mass Explained will be a good resource for religious education teachers and an especially good resource for those going through the RCIA program.
