Saint Richard, Bishop in England at the time of Henry III, was known for his generosity to the poor and his attempt to reform the manner and morals of the clergy while, at the same time, protecting them from the abuses of the king. This prayer card, dedicated to him, is a two page card featuring the world famous artwork of Fratelli-Bonella with gold stamped trim. The front of the card has an image of St. Richard in his bishop's garb and holding a chalice. A popular legend had it that he dropped a chalice during Mass and nothing spilled out of the chalice. The back has a prayer to him holding him up as an example of Divine Love and Faith and asking that the one praying be given help in persevering in love and faith also. The inside has a biography of Saint Richard, his feast day, the meaning of his name and the people for whom he is considered a patron saint. The card measures 5-1/4 by 3-1/8 inches so is easy to carry or use as a bookmark in a bible or prayer book. It would be a nice memento to give the young person who has chosen Richard as his Confirmation name.
