Product Details
Icons are a unique type of art easily recognizable because of the style of the design. The story of St. Francis of Assisi is one of the best known of all the Christian saints and his image is presented on this card. The card measures 4-3/8 by 5-7/8 inches and is blank inside so there is a generous amount of space to include your message for just about any occasion. The verse from Philippians 4:7 is included on the inside. The back of the card has an explanation of the history and symbolism of the icon presented.
St. Francis is known for rejecting the wealth of his family, living as a hermit and founding the Franciscan order where the monks lived under vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. He is shown in the brown robe with the rope belt worn by the monks of the order. The cave in the background is indicative of the time he spent as a hermit. A unique feature of an icon is the large eyes of the figure which are said to be eyes that look into the soul of the viewer or that draw the viewer into communion with God through the eyes of the figure represented in the icon. The gold leaf used to adorn the halo reflects light differently than the rest of the surface of the card and is symbolic of the divine love of God for all people.
