Product Details
Icons are a unique type of art easily recognizable because of the style of the design. Most icons of St. Benedict show him as an older, severe man. The one on this card portrays him as a younger man holding his abbot's staff and his famous "rules for monks" a book which many orders of monks used and which is popular and used even today. The card measures 4-3/8 by 5-7/8 inches and is blank inside so there is a generous amount of space to include your message for just about any occasion. The verse from Proverbs 4:1 is included on the inside. The back of the card has an explanation of the history and symbolism of the icon presented.
St. Benedict lived as a hermit for some time, and this is reflected in the raven and thorn bush that are shown on the icon. A unique feature of an icon is the large eyes of the figure which are said to be eyes that look into the soul of the viewer or that draw the viewer into communion with God through the eyes of the figure represented in the icon. The gold leaf used to adorn the halo reflects light differently than the rest of the surface of the card and is symbolic of the divine love of God for all people.

What is your Return & Exchange Policy?
