St. Barbara was raised in a heathen family and kept prisoner by her father in a tower. She secretly became a Christian and, when the tower was remodeled, had a third window put in honor of the Holy Trinity. When her father found out she was a Christian, he denounced her to a tribunal, she was horribly tortured and finally put to death. This holy card, dedicated to her, is a two page card featuring the world famous artwork of Fratelli-Bonella with gold stamped trim. The front of the card has an image of St. Barbara wearing a crown of martyrdom with the three-windowed tower in the background. The back has a prayer asking help in trusting in the Holy Trinity at a time when our world is filled with anger and pain. The inside has a biography of St. Barbara, her feast day, the meaning of her name and the people for whom she is considered a patron saint. St. Barbara is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers which is a group of saints who collectively are thought to be particularly effective when asked for intercessions especially the curing of diseases. The card measures 5-1/4 by 3-1/8 inches so is easy to carry or use as a bookmark in a bible or prayer book. It would be a nice memento to give the young person who has chosen Barbara as her Confirmation name.
