Product Details
Icons are a unique type of art easily recognizable because of the style of the design. This card has the traditional image of Christ as Pantocrator which is Greek for "ruler of all" to which the artist has added a medallion with an image of the Sacred Heart. The card measures 4-3/8 by 5-7/8 inches and is blank inside so there is a generous amount of space to include your message for just about any occasion. The verse from Jeremiah 31:36 is included on the inside. The back of the card has an explanation of the history and symbolism of the icon presented.
A unique feature of an icon is the large eyes of the figure which are said to be eyes that look into the soul of the viewer or that draw the viewer into communion with God through the eyes of the figure represented in the icon. The Sacred Heart presented is shown on fire with love for humankind and has symbols of the suffering Christ endured as seen in the cross, the crown of thorns, nails and the spear that pierced his side. The gold leaf used to adorn the halo reflects light differently than the rest of the surface of the card and is symbolic of the divine love of God for all people.
