The story of the Sacred Heart badge says that the Lord appeared to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque and asked her to have small images of the Sacred Heart made and handed out. This is how the Sacred Heart badge came to be because St. Margaret Mary Alacoque honored the Lords appearance to her and started to make Sacred Heart badges. The devotion states that wherever the Heart of Jesus was honored or worn, that place would be blessed by the Lord. That was the promise given to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque.
