Our Lady of Guadalupe is one of the most popular Catholic depictions of the Virgin Mary. No wonder this Our Lady of Guadalupe medal is one of our most popular saint medal gifts. The image originated in 1531 when Mary appeared to Juan Diego on Tepeyac Hill in Mexico and requested that a church be built in Her honor. When the local bishop asked for a sign from Mary to prove that the vision was true, the Virgin Mary instructed Juan Diego to gather roses (which were out of season at that time) into his tilma (cloak).
When he presented the Castilian roses (which happened to be the bishop's favorite) the now known Our Lady of Guadalupe image appeared on a cloth. The image that appears on our Our Lady of Guadalupe medal is inspired from this original Our Lady of Guadalupe cloth. The Our Lady of Guadalupe medal is a reminder of Mary's love and prayers for you and your loved ones.
