Joyce Hutchinson has written two other books about her experiences as a hospice nurse. In On My Way Home A Hospice Nurse's Journey With Terminal Cancer she shares her own experience of dealing with terminal lung cancer and her approaching death in hopes of helping others who are experiencing cancer. She talks candidly of issues with which she and all cancer patients have to deal like how sick chemo makes the patient, the great fluctuation of emotions, how she felt when others told her she "looked good". She relates how her sense of humor helped her cope with the weariness of yet another procedure, how cancer isolates a person from those around them, how she got through her husband walking out of the marriage. But most important, she talks of how she held on to her faith and experienced God in a whole new way.
Joyce Rupp, noted author, was Hutchinson's partner in writing the other two books and she has written the Foreword and Afterword of this book where she relates the circumstances of the death of Hutchinson and the Mass of the Resurrection which followed. On My Way Home offers compassionate encouragement to cancer patients and their families as they make this journey together.
