William G. Storey, in the book he edited called Novenas defines a novena as "nine days of concentrated prayer" and says that attending novenas himself "drove home the value and necessity of prayer for all human needs". In the introduction to the book, he talks about novenas and how he became interested in praying using the method of novenas. He explains how the prayer the Our Father gives us the perfect pattern to use when praying and explains this pattern further in the back of the book using a paraphrase of the prayer.
Novenas is divided into sections with a variety of novenas for the Holy Trinity, for Mary, for the saints and for special occasions. It ends with a small section containing a series of litanies. The book measures 4-1/4 by 6-1/2" so is easy to carry from place to place. It can be used by individuals for solitary prayer or used in a gathering of people.
