My Dear Young Friends is a book of 52 weekly reflections based on quotes taken from the addresses of Pope John Paul II most of which were made on or in anticipation of World Youth Day. The quotes were chosen by young people from across the United States because of the challenges and inspiration the quotes presented. "My dear young friends" was the way Pope John Paul II started most of the speeches he made when addressing the young people who came to hear him speak.
Each reflection in My Dear Young Friends starts with a selected quote from Pope John Paul II, continues with a section entitled "Think about it", which offers a brief reflection on the quote, has a "Take Action" suggestion, and closes with a prayer. There is also a brief fact given about Pope John Paul II at the very end of the reflection found in My Dear Young Friends. Pope John Paul II expressed belief in the young people of the world and wished to open them up to the message of hope and love which was that Jesus Christ lives with each generation and lives in the youth of the world today. A topic index is in the back of the book.
