Our Lady of Sorrows is the title given to Mary in reference to the suffering she endured as the Mother of Jesus. Those traditional seven sufferings include the prophecy of Simeon, the flight into Egypt, the loss of the child Jesus in the temple, meeting Jesus when he was on his way to crucifixion, watching the crucifixion, receiving the body of Jesus when he was taken down from the cross and seeing Jesus placed in the tomb. The front of the card has an image of Mary contemplating the crown of thorns which Jesus was forced to wear while the back of the pamphlet has a prayer asking for the presence of Mary while the one offering the prayer is experiencing some sort of suffering.
The Our Lady of Sorrows prayer pamphlet holy card is a 2 page pamphlet made in Italy and features world famous Fratelli-Bonello artwork with gold stamped trim. It measures 5-3/8 by 3-1/4" so is easy and convenient to carry or use as a bookmark in a prayer book or bible. The inside of the pamphlet has information about how Our Lady of Sorrows came into being and the meaning of some of the imagery found in the way she is presented. She is the universal patron of all who are suffering.
