Some Christian doctrines believe in the presence of purgatory, a temporary place of punishment and remorse for souls on their way to heaven who have died with venial sins on their souls. Other people are asked to pray for these souls to lessen their time there and help them move on to heaven. As an aid in praying for these souls, Holy Souls Novena and Prayers is a 24 page booklet which offers a nine day series of prayers, a novena, for the release of these souls. Beautiful artwork from Fratelli Bonella of Italy places stunning illustrations throughout the booklet.
A Prayer for the Holy Souls is found in the front of the booklet. Original text by Daniel A. Lord, S.J. follows and for each of the nine days he talks about purgatory, what it is, why it is important, how to help those there. Following the text for each day, the reader is asked to the prayer. Other prayers and a Litany for the Souls in Purgatory are also found in the book.
