This cream jug comes from Belleek of Ireland known for their fine china pottery. The cream jug measures 4-1/2 inches at its widest point. The cream jug features a combination of basket weave design and the hand painted shamrocks for which Belleek has become known. The shamrocks are painted in various shades of green and artisans at Belleek have been using these designs since the 1880's. The cream jug is meant to be used so is dishwasher safe although it is lovely enough to keep on display when not in use. The stems of the hand painted shamrocks flow towards the handle of the jug and help to form the handle design. The handle is designed to look like vines or wood which gives a pleasing contrast between the handle and the overall design of the cream jug.
You will delight in serving family or friends tea, a snack or meal while using this lovely cream jug. The design pulls together the ancient art of basket weaving which was done in both the Irish countryside and the cities and the shamrock which is a sign of good luck or good fortune.
