This inspirational Saint Anthony statue is made in Italy by the company founded from the famed sculptor, Ulrich Peathoner, in the Val Gardena area. The art of wood sculpture began in this area in the mid-17th century. Celebrating the artistry of a craft passed down from generation to generation, this Saint Anthony statue is made from artfully dried wood. The Saint Anthony statue is a small size, just 3" tall so you can display it anywhere for an intimate viewing and comes in a handsome, black case. Woodcarving in Val Gardena, Italy is a 400 year old tradition. The Val Gardena tradition goes back to the Middle Ages and this wooden statue of Saint Anthony demonstrates how the generations of the master carvers from this area perfected their art. In the natural wood color, the Saint Anthony statue is inspirational to many of all ages.
The small size of this statue makes it perfect to have at one’s bedside for a continuous devotion. Saint Anthony is the hope of the absent-minded and the forgetful - here's why: Anthony had borrowed a valuable Psalter which he believed he misplaced. Unknown to him, a young novice had stolen it and was escaping with the goods. As Anthony prayed for its recovery, the young man was terrorized by a menacing vision and rushed back quickly to return the book. The prescription or prayer for finding lost items is "Dear St Anthony, I pray, bring it back without delay"; or the more informal – "Tony, Tony, look around; something's lost and must be found". St Anthony is patron of searchers of lost things, the poor, travelers and Portugal.
