Add this religious statue of Pier Giorgio Frassati to your collection. He was beautified by Saint John Paul II on May 20, 1990. The design of this Pier Giorgio Frassati statue highlights his passion for mountain climbing where he would find God as well as in the Mass, Eucharist, and Catholic Church. Measuring 4-1/8”W x 10-7/8”H, the figure is shown on the mountain snow with his ice axe that is a separate piece that measures 5-7/8” long. There is an insert in the top of the ice axe for the thumb to be inserted. In addition to sharing his climbing passion with others, Giorgio gave to help the poor with what little he had. Pier Giorgio Frassati decided to prioritize being of service to the poor in their suffering which he considered a high calling.
Born in Turin, Italy in 1901, Pier Giorgio Frassati grew up to follow in St. Paul’s footsteps and join the Lay Dominicans. As his family did, he fought Fascism literally and otherwise by participating in demonstrations in Rome organized by the Catholic Church to fight Fascism. Pier Giorgio Frassati contracted illness in his work to serve the poor and died July 4, 1925. He is now buried in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist church in Turin, Italy. This inspirational statue makes a meaningful gift for young people as they learn of his fiery heart answering the call of Christ.
